PBL and CREATE Framework

Project Based Learning (PBL) and CREATE Framework

Project based learning is a teaching approach that engages students in sustained, collaborative real-world investigations.  Projects at LeAF Studio are organised around a driving question, and students participate in a variety of tasks that seek to meaningfully address this question.  In this respect, learning becomes much more akin to the experiences that take place in the work environment. Delivery of project based learning in LeAF Studio includes, but is not restricted to:

Asking and refining question

  • Debating ideas
  • Making predictions
  • Designing plans and/or experiments
  • Collecting and analysing data
  • Drawing conclusions
  • Communicating ideas and findings to others
  • Asking new questions
  • Creating artefacts and/or presentations

In order to accurately assess progress in project based learning, the Studio Schools Trust CREATE framework provides a clear structure in which employability skills can be tracked and measured. These skills include:

  • Communication
  • Relating to Others
  • Enterprise
  • Applied contexts
  • Thinking
  • Emotional Intelligence

Students are encouraged throughout PBL sessions to reflect on their progress in each of these areas and identify methods through which they can develop and improve.

Citizenship / PSHE / Sex and Relationship Education

Alongside their individualised curriculum options and PBL, students at LeAF Studio also have the opportunity to experience a range of workshops and seminars delivered by external expert speakers, covering essential aspects of Citizenship, PSHE and Sex & Relationship Education depending upon their age
